1.    Preparation:

Material: aluminium paste, diluent, Acrylic resin/Alkyd resin,

Devices: scale, 50ml beaker, glass rod(diameter about 5mm, length about 150mm); film making device; paper panels

2.    Process:

Weigh 0.25gram aluminium paste and put it into 50ml beaker, add 0.80gram diluent. Stir slowly with glass rod to disperse the aluminium paste well; then add resin, stir and disperse evenly.

Put paper panels on film making device, dip the dispersed paste on the panel, use the drawn-down device to make a smooth film on panel.

If want to compare two batches or two grades, can use same formulation and parallel the draw-down test. Then compare the difference by visual observation.

Remarks: Usually xylene, toluene is the preferred solvent to disperse leafing type aluminium paste. Because, the high polar solvent may destroy the leafing performance of the leafing aluminium paste.

Alkyd resin is recommended for leafing type and acrylic resin is recommended for non-leafing type.
